RESTORING CHAMPIONSHIP-CALIBER IAQ TO A BIG TEN AQUATIC CENTER
The University of Minnesota was facing a challenge in their aquatic center. Indoor air quality had gradually deteriorated in the facility which opened in 1990. Swimmers were coughing. Eyes were red. Spectators were leaving. Despite an extraordinary competitive pool, the environment made it difficult to attract and host championship swim meets. So the U of M made some changes.
- Units designed to utilize fresh air for dehumidification when economical. With pool spaces typically operating at dew points between 65 – 70 deg F, that can (and should) happen the majority of the year!
- Interior aluminum construction and injected foam insulated panels that provide significantly longer life than units with powder coated steel interiors and fiberglass insulation.
- Proven control sequences that provide year-round control of space temperature, humidity, and pressure, while maximizing fresh air and minimizing operating costs with simple, reliable energy recovery.
